COFFEE IN A CARDBOARD CUP

A crisp afternoon,
leaves showing
the season. I’m dressed
for late summer.
It’s refreshing to get out
of the oppressive heat
that attacks joints,
when fatigue happens
sooner.

There’s a shop around the corner
that will, for just a few dollars,
brew a delicious drink
of your choosing.

I drink caffeinated beverages
on these occasions
and order a white mocha
with almond milk.
Cold, please, I say,
and take a small sip.

My stomach settles
from an icy attack,
then take a larger sip.
but I want to make it last.

The road ahead is paved with heat
But now, feeling cooler
and energized and move
to my goal.
