My palette
not oil or acrylics,
but beautiful chalks.

I love chalk
they’re not tubes
of paint nor as messy
or oils that are so costly,
but chalk has finger-smearing
quality.

Brushes aren’t needed,
but use them for a different effect
to the rendering.
And easily add new colors
in seconds
but the problem with chalk,
is that they aren’t as vivid
as wet paint.

And then there are wax crayons,
beautiful colors
and vivid
blend almost as easily
as mashed potatoes,
with gravy.

I do use a brush
for stroke techniques.
I’ve learned that sugar water
hypes colors.
Then use a workable fixative
to add more color.
I like to mix wax pastels with chalks
for highlights.

I’ve always liked to finger paint,
my kids loved it too
used them for anything I can.
The tips of fingers are perfect for rounding
mixing new colors.
Purples, blues, and yellow, together, subtle
as sunshine.
