It begins with coffee,
then a workout at Planet Fitness-
a steady routine
for Monday, Wednesday, Friday
and next week the same again,
keeping muscles from slipping
into overuse
or boredom.
A couple of friends join me.
Afterward, we sit with coffee
talk a while—
an easy way to make a day.
The coffee was a Christmas gift
A German Shepard working dog on the bag—
strong, alert—
and the brew matches it.
It’s bold enough to wake
a season.
But now it’s early spring
or should be
and somewhere that woodchuck
is deciding for us all.
He’s nudging the world
toward warmth,
let it come sooner
than later.
